You need to play Harrdy Sandhu’s Yaarr Superstaar out loud!
By Bryan Durham - March 15, 2019
SONG: Yaarr Superstaar
SINGER: Harrdy Sandhu
MUSIC: Meet Sehra
VIDEO DIRECTOR: DirectorGifty
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
This is the second time Varun Sharma has appeared in a music video, it’s his second Punjabi music video as well. This is Manjot’s first music video and Harrdy’s first time sharing screen space since Goal (teaming up with Jassie Gill, Girik Aman and Ammy Virk) for a music video.
Also, this is the second time Harrdy Sandhu has used this peculiar spelling (‘Yaarr’) in a title. The last time he did this was for Yaarr Ni Milyaa.
The video for YS also features Heli Daruwala (of Naagin 3 fame) in a supporting role.
Punjabi pop music usually adheres to a certain palette when it comes to songs of this type. You can either be nostalgic, all-out boisterous or sorrowful. Never all at once while strung by the common thread of fun. Yaarr Superstaar ticks all the boxes while never once sounding convoluted or self-indulgent. Meet’s music keeps the mood light, Babbu overwhelms you with emotive words as Harrdy does his thang.
DirectorGifty’s visuals for the single seem a little too harsh on the eyes. The canvas is bright, pop-out colours everywhere and has a bit much happening at any given time. The story timeline is linear and has the trio going through the years and never really growing up. Which is kinda how we like it. What we feel, though, is that too much time is spent building the first act, which could have been done without. The single really could do without it.
A few snags aside, Yaarr Superstaar gets you in the mood for the weekend. So call up your friends, play this one loud and have a swell time, swaying to the track.>
