Worst of Week: When mannequins do ‘Chance Pe Dance’
By Oojal Kour Dhanjal - July 25, 2018
This is how the song Taa-Daa by Vijay Prakash, Sandip Mahavir and Taufiq Qureshi has come to be.
Enter: an overly joyous high spirited girl who enters a creepy warehouse (or is it a place apt for murder?) and asks a man (who is actually a mannequin) to teach her how to dance. Where did she even get such a reference?
There is creepy, and then there is beyond creepy. With the man’s unpleasant expressions, we are already worrying about the girl’s safety (and our sanity). There is a failed not-so-subtle attempt at a Lean On scene, where you pair traditional clothes, bored face with sunglasses. Where it worked amazingly well there, that did not seem to have happened here.
And somehow, she gets so emotionally attached to him that when he finally finds out about his mannequin status, she lets out tears of sadness and takes back her earring (that was stuck on his hand, which no one ever wondered how it came in the first place).
‘Taa-Dhaa’ has been sung by Vijay Prakash, Sandip Mahavir and Taufiq Qureshi. Lyrics and Music of the song have been given by Taufiq Qureshi. Taufiq has sadly been reduced to a caricature, with the only good thing in this song being his percussion skills.>
