Whatever happened to Swagat Rathod, the winner of Shah Rukh Khan, AR Rahman’s ARRived?
By Bryan Durham - January 25, 2019
Swagat Rathod may have been declared the ‘Voice of Zero’ by virtue of being the winner of Qyuki Digital Media’s ARRived, judged by AR Rahman, Shaan, Clinton Cerejo and Vidya Vox, but really, WAS HE?
The entire soundtrack of Zero dropped the day of the film’s release (December 21, 2018) and Swagat’s playback singing debut credit was nowhere to be found.
One reckons that there would be a promotional track planned independent of the film, but given the film’s poor showing at the box-office, it is believed that the idea may have been dropped.
Yes, Zero did become the tenth highest worldwide grosser of 2018, but that says more of the general fate of Bollywood films this year than the film’s actual collections. Collections closed a little shy of Rs 89 crore.
Now, here’s the surprising part. Given Shah Rukh’s participation and involvement in ARRived, one expected the superstar to follow through.
When one browses through the soundtrack credits of the film on any of the major streaming services, one does not see Swagat’s name anywhere.
When asked by a visitor to his Instagram page (see post below), which song he had sung for, Swagat said that it was for Issaqbaazi and that the credits would be updated. (January 4). We browsed through the ‘video song’ and ‘full video’ versions on YouTube as well today. Still no mention of Swagat.
So who’s picking up the slack on this one? What is the point of shows like these if the artist sees no recognition outside of a competition despite being promised a launchpad?
Rahman has moved on to judging The Voice India. Will Swagat’s contribution to Issaqbaazi be forgotten?>
