Two love songs and a showboater

Riverdale and Empire make the cut this week. One show’s performance-heavy, the other’s getting there, though not overtly so.
A little backgrounder, Empire is about hip-hop music mogul Lucious Lyon and his brood and the daily battles he fights at home and against the world. Riverdale, for the uninitiated, is the television adaptation of the iconic ARCHIE COMICS series.
The song at #3 is ‘Trapped’. Jussie Smollett and Bryshere Y. Gray aka Yazz perform this one. Not once, but twice. First in Season 4’s eighth episode titled ‘Cupid Painted Blind’ and then in the ninth episode, ‘Slave To Memory’. The former episode sees brothers Hakeem and Jamal laying out a new track, the latter sees them perform an orchestral version.
#2 features the voice talents of the cast of Riverdale in the eighth episode called ‘House of the Devil’. KJ Apa (Archie), Camila Mendes (Veronica) are singing the Tears for Fears hit on karaoke at FP’s retirement party. Ronnie starts crying and leaves the stage and Archie follows. Betty (Lili Reinhart) takes up the mic in their absence.
From the same episode’s ending comes the song at the numero uno position: ‘Bruises’, a song by Scottish singer-songwriter #LewisCapaldi , which originally features on his Bloom EP. Listen to the song and you’ll see the lyrics are about heartache and the end of a relationship.
