Kavita Seth talks to us ahead of her concert with Dipti Misra on Sunday

Kavita Seth recently hit headlines for her collaboration with Pakistani poet Rehman Faris, called Yeh Jo Mujh Par Nikhaar Hai. The Sufi songstress did so, in the face of rising calls for banning collaborations with Pakistani artistes.

To do so, requires courage and clarity of purpose. And over the course of our conversation with the singer, we realised that she’s quite emotional about her craft, about the state of verse in our country, on the remix/remake culture prevalent in Bollywood among other things.

Our meeting with her comes ahead of her concert with eminent poetess and actor Dipti Misra. The concert will take place this Sunday and will see the recitation of free verse and ghazals by Misra and Seth rendering her work in her unique voice and composition. The venue is the Pranganga Auditorium at Bhavan’s College, 6.30 pm onwards. Entry is free and on a first-come-first-serve basis.
