Soorma Anthem is no Zinda, but it has its own charms

Why Soorma Anthem is all the #MondayMotivation you need

When all the chips are down and the odds are stacked against you, where do you find the resolve and the persistence to get past the long night and win the day? The Soorma Anthem takes you along on that journey.

Composed by Shankar Ehsaan Loy and sung by Shankar Mahadevan, it’s about a do-or-die situation. There’s no middle path for soormas (warriors). The pride and determination is evident in all of Gulzar’s words. The contrasts are spelt out and brought to a rousing anthemic chorus.

Lighting a lamp in a storm is the epitome of doing the impossible, but the metaphor is used here to great effect and you cannot but sing along.

The video sees Sandeep Singh (played by Diljit Dosanjh) at his lowest, braving injury and returning to form despite being shunted out of the national team. He enlists his elder brother’s help to get back into the game. And over the course of the video, you see his progress and eventual triumphant return. Don’t miss the commentator’s shocked, questioning remark.

Soorma, starring Diljit Dosanjh, Taapsee Pannu and Angad Bedi, is a Sony Pictures Networks Productions release, co-produced by Chitrangda Singh and Deepak Singh. The five-track soundtrack will release through Sony Music India. The film releases on July 13.
