At six National awards, AR Rahman becomes the most awarded music director at the prestigious annual event.

The music maestro scored two awards this year — Best Music Director (for Kaatru Veliyidai) and Best Background Score (for Mom). Mani Ratnam’s Kaatru Veliyidai had another winner in Shashaa Tirupati who took home the Best Playback Singer award for the song Vaan Varuvaan.

Among the other music categories, JM Prahalad bagged an award for Best Lyrics for Muthu Ratna from March 22. K.J Yesudas won Best Male Playback Singer.

In the Non-Feature Films space, the Best Music award went to Ramesh Narayanan for Shored of Liberty. The Best On-Location Sound Recordist was Samarth Mahajan for The Unreserved.

Bollywood filmmaker Shekhar Kapur headed the jury, which comprised of 10 members. The others who were a part of the panel were Imtiaz Hussain, lyricist Mehboob, Gauthami, P Sheshadri, Rajesh MapuskarAniruddha Roy Chowdhury, Ranjit Das, Tripurari Sharma, and Rumi Jaffrey.
