Prateek Kuhad only Indian singer on Barack Obama playlist
By Bryan Durham - December 31, 2019
Singer-songwriter Prateek Kuhad has always been a rarity in Indian music, bucking trend after trend to make new milestones. As an independent artiste of note, performing to Indian as well as international audiences over the years — spanning everything from SXSW to intimate gigs in India — it was somewhat refreshing to see him in Bollywood in 2016 (Baar Baar Dekho‘s Kho Gaye Hum Kahan) and in 2018 (Karwaan‘s Saansein and Kadam).
He would win several awards (notably, the MTV EMA Best India Act in 2016) and sell out tours in India as well as the US (as he continues to do), but it says something when you land up on a former (much-loved, might we add) US President’s Songs Of The Year playlist.
His cold/mess was very well-received as was the video starring Jim Sarbh and Zoya Hussain, but to make it to Barack Obama’s list is a big deal.
His inclusion in the largely US artist-driven list says a lot about his prolific work and the possibility of his stock to soar in the US even more in 2020.
Prateek has acknowledged as much with his latest post on Instagram…>
