Marshmello brings Kartik Aaryan on stage, but why?

The Luka Chuppi actor makes surprise entry during Mello’s performance at Vh1 Supersonic 2019

American electronic dance music producer Marshmello was in India recently on a whirlwind tour and among other things, promoted Biba, his song with Pritam featuring Shirley Setia and Shah Rukh Khan in the video, no less!

The Bollywood mashup ‘tribute’ video didn’t go unnoticed, grabbing eyeballs and making headlines everywhere.

The idea, says Marshmello, was to give Indian fans their own dance anthem. “India is so special to me. This is my third time here and I love it even more each time I come back. It was great to work with Pritam and give the Mellogang, Biba”
Check out a few glimpses of his India tour here:

Don’t mess with my dhol #biba

Mello, one of the headliners at Vh1 Supersonic 2019, made sure to play Biba on stage and get the audience to groove on it.

However, while everyone expected Shah Rukh, Pritam or even Shirley Setia to join him on stage, Mello pulled a fast one, calling actor Kartik Aaryan on stage and even as the actor spoke to the crowds, played the Coca Cola Tu re-creation from Luka Chuppi as he joined Kartik dancing.

Although, this begs the question: Why not any of the Biba artists? Or Shah Rukh, even? Why not the country’s biggest female singer in terms of social media rankings (Neha Kakkar, in case you were wondering), why not the re-composer of the song (Tanishk Bagchi) or even Tony Kakkar (the creator of the original song)?

And here’s why we aren’t happy. It’s a music festival. As much as the whole world and their extended family loves and follows Kartik Aaryan, bottomline is, why not have Neha on stage or Pritam instead of Kartik.

As much as he cheekily denied it was a gimmick to promote his upcoming film, Luka Chuppi, the answer is fairly simple. It was a win-win for both parties.

Having SRK at Supersonic would be overkill. Shirley Setia has a far lesser following than either Kartik or Marshmello. The only person with a bigger following than Mello himself is Neha Kakkar. Why not get her on stage? Because Kartik is a Bollywood actor.

And let’s face it, Bollywood sells. Over and above anything and everything. Capische?

At the event, Kartik was greeted by loud applause as he interacted with the Punekars, about 20000 of them. B-Town’s latest heartthrob took to social media to share his memories of the night.
The actor also invited Marshmello to watch Luka Chuppi at the end of their performance. The DJ seems to have a found a buddy in Kartik, if their bonding on stage is anything to go by

The film releases March 1.
