Justin Bieber music video shuts down Iceland canyon

No, it’s not I DON’T CARE that’s to blame!

A three-year-old music video for Justin Bieber’s ‘I’ll Show You’ is being cited as one of the reasons for shutting down a canyon in Iceland.

The virtually unknown Fjadrárgljúfur Canyon saw an incredible increase in footfalls post Justin shooting his music video there in 2015.

“Since then it’s been overrun by visitors and the intensity of foot traffic has wreaked havoc on its fragile vegetation,” said Sasha Brady of Lonely Planet.

The number of visitors to the canyon doubled between 2017 and 2018 “causing damage to the local vegetation and pathways”. Thereafter, Iceland’s Environmental Agency made the decision to close the canyon for two weeks in March this year. It now stands closed till June 1, 2019.

In a statement to the Associated Press, Environment minister Gudmundur Ingi Gudbrandsson admitted that it was “a bit too simplistic to blame the entire situation on Justin Bieber,” but added, “Rash behaviour by one famous person can dramatically impact an entire area if the mass follows,” he explained.
