Idris Elba: DJing is my first love!

Idris Elba might one day be James Bond (we live eternally in hope), but until that time we have his other roles to tide us over. The latest one is Turn Up Charlie, an eight-episode comedy series co-created by him and Gary Reich that is out on Netflix.
Speaking to Collider, Idris said this about his evolution, “DJing is my first love. That’s where I started. By the time I was about 13, I was DJing for house parties. And then, I met my drama teacher, and the DJing went out the window. I became an actor.”
He does however admit, “The truth is that I’ve kept DJing alongside my acting career. It’s one of those things that I just really like to do. It grounds me, completely. I love music, and I love making music.”
Have the two world ever collided, though? He notes, “What I did not what to do was market my DJing, based on my acting. But recently, there’s been this crazy cross-roads of stuff happening, all together, with Coachella and Turn Up Charlie. It all looks like a marketing plan, but it isn’t. I promise, I’m not that clever.”
Idris tells Collider that he has DJ duty coming up after being announced as one of the acts at Coachella this year. Elba will be seen at EDC (Electric Daisy Carnival) in Vegas as well after Coachella, he shared.
