Here’s how you can support your fav Indie artist during the coronavirus lockdown

By Bryan Durham - April 4, 2020

In a move that makes us wanna cheer them from the rooftops by clanging vessels, ghantis and whatnot, JioSaavn has come up with this crazy cool idea to keep live music thriving despite the COVID-19 lockdown. Yeah, yeah, so everybody and their uncle is doing live seshes but the folks at JioSaavn are doing right by artists by offering alternate revenue streams in the absence of gigs (you know… the ones where you don’t have to be social distancing?).

Well, here’s the thing for most of April (possibly longer), JioSaavn’s committed to showcasing independent artists for 20/30-minute sets on their Facebook page LIVE via a series called JioSaavn Live Anywhere.

Here’s how you can support your fav Indie artist during the coronavirus lockdown

The online performances while free, will encourage viewers to make pay-what-you-want donations, through ticketing site Paytm Insider.

Additionally, after the FB Live performances, the audio recording of each session will be hosted as an album available for streaming within the JioSaavn app and 100% of revenue generated from those streams will go directly to the artist. Simply tuning in, engaging and streaming the live session albums on JioSaavn (published after each performance) are other ways fans can support their favourite artists.

The live performances will be Recorded with the Dolby On App. The Facebook integration will allow the artists to stream their music in high definition directly to JioSaavn’s Facebook Live.

“We’re delivering the closest thing to an in-person live performance you can get. It will feel like the artist is in your living room,” Rishi Malhotra – co-founder and CEO at JioSaavn said. “Our hope is to provide something for people to look forward to as they stay home, while also supporting independent artists through an immensely challenging time for the entire music industry.”

Speaking about the future of the series, he says, “We will be engaging with artists around the world to be a part of JioSaavn Live Anywhere.”

If Tejas Menon’s set yesterday evening was any indication, we’re in for a treat.

Below is a list of the other artists and confirmed dates for JioSaavn Live Anywhere:

• 4th April – Ankur Tewari
• 5th April – Palash Sen
• 8th April – Nikhita Gandhi
• 10th April – Dhruv Vishvanath
• 11th April – Taba Chake

Additional artists and dates will be announced in the coming weeks.
