Ed, Kendrick score a 6 at BBMAS

Bruno Mars, ‘Despacito’ bag five apiece

It’s almost as exhaustive as the Recording Academy / GRAMMYs in the number of categories it gives away awards in and is just as significant as awards go. The 2018 Billboard Music Awards went underway at 6.30 am IST today morning with Kelly Clarkson hosting the event at the MGM Grand Las Vegas.

Deaths due to gun violence was on the mind, obviously. Right at the beginning Kelly opened with her thoughts on the recent Santa Fe shooting. Quite aptly, it was followed up by Ariana Grande’s rendition of No Tears Left To Cry. Another song that paid tribute to student victims of gun violence by Shawn Mendes and Khalid

Of the biggest nominees of the night, Ed took home six awards, including top honours (Top Artist and Top Male Artist along with Hot 100, Radio Songs and Song Sales and Radio Song), Kendrick Lamar was on par with six wins, too (Streaming Songs, Rap Artist, Rap Male Artist, Billboard 200 Album, Rap Album, Streaming Song Audio). Bruno Mars came a close third with a clean sweep of the R&B categories and five wins. One of the biggest hits of the year, Despacito won five awards, too!
