Darshan Raval’s Bhula Dunga becomes most commented Indian video

By Bryan Durham - March 27, 2020

In three days flat, Darshan Raval’s Bhula Dunga has become the most commented Indian video of all time. Effectively, the single breaks the record  set by his Raw Star mentor, Yo Yo Honey Singh with Makhna (featuring Neha Kakkar).

The surge of comments is believed to be driven by the joint efforts of the fandoms of singer-songwriter Darshan Raval and TV actors (and Bigg Boss 13 stars) Sidharth Shukla and Shehnaaz Gill, who feature in the video for his latest single.

And while Darshan and #SidNaaz (that’s how Sidharth and Shehnaaz are ‘shipped) might hold the record for most comments for the foreseeable future, one would be hard-pressed to find a video. That, too, in the time that Bhula Dunga did.

Makhna sits at 356,000+ comments in a little over a year’s time. It is commendable that the Darshan-SidNaaz video got there far, far faster. One might say, at a supersonic speed.

As we write this, the single continues to sit in the #1 position on YouTube’s Trending (in India) chart apart from being the fastest Indian video to reach 1 mn likes. This, in the face of zero promotions given the lockdown in India and “competition” from SidNaaz’s BB13 housemates’ music videos that had a longer run — Kalla Sohna Nai (starring Asim Riaz and Himanshi Khurana) and Baarish (starring Mahira Sharma and Paras Chhabra).

To give you a comparison (and why this is a huge deal), Baarish sits at 15 mn views in two weeks (with 616K+ likes and 42K comments) and Kalla… is at 25.7 mn views in one week (with 1.2mn likes and 154K+ comments).

Take into account the fact that while TiKTok stars dominate music videos these days, NONE of them (either solo or together) have been able to command the kind of views/likes/comments (or frenzy, in general) for their videos that Bhula Dunga has in the time frame that it has.

Yes… that includes Jannat Zubair, Faisal Sheikh aka Mr Faisu, Siddharth Nigam, Avneet Kaur, Awez Darbar, Anam Darbar, Nagma Mirajkar, Riyaz Aly, Teen Tigada aka Bhavin, Sameeksha and Vishal, Manjull Khattar or Garima Chaurasia.

Let that sink in for a moment.

PS: Better watch out, Filhall! If Bhula Dunga has its way, it just might be coming for your crowns.
