Jubin Nautiyal is crushing it on the independent music scene after a string of Bollywood successes. His last single Humnava Mere got more than 153 million views on YouTube. His latest single, Chitthi sees the singer return to his roots yet again to promote a Jaunsari melody.
Originally composed by Khajan Dutt Sharma, this version’s music has been directed by Jubin’s regular collaborators Rocky Shiv. The song has lyrics by Kumaar and the video features the singer alongside Akanksha Puri.
The reason why Jubin picked this track is because it’s in his regional language and because the song is close to his heart and he wanted it to reach a wider audience.
The video has been directed by Robby Singh and has been shot in Dubai. It’s an emotional rollercoaster of a video which charts the journey of love of childhood sweethearts separated by distances.
The video romanticises an old-fashioned idea of love and longing in the time of hyper-connectivity.
Says Jubin, ‘Chitthi is a song from my roots, it’s a Jaunsari song by a dear friend and a local composer from Jaunsaar. Being able to do a song from back home is really special for me. It is a song that people will smile listening to, cry to, a sound that will remind people of the authenticity of letters and simplicity of love’.
He further adds, ‘ We have tried new structure and instruments for this single. We have incorporated flutes, rabab , banjo and udd section. A lot of great musicians got together to create this track.’>
