BLACKPINK breaks 5 BTS records with latest single

June 26, 2020: MARK THE DATE. It was the day K-Pop girl band BLACKPINK demolished several records held by K-Pop boy band BTS. It was the day, to quote Queen Bey, the day the girls showed the boy who “Run The World”.

Marking their “three-step comeback” after last year’s Kill This Love, BLACKPINK is back “in your area” with the first pre-release How You Like That. The second song is expected between July and August before the studio album releases in September.

BIGGEST PREMIERE

It was the BLACKPINK single How You Like That, released today, that saw the biggest premiere YouTube has seen: 1.65 million viewers tuned in. To give you an estimate of why this is a big deal, let’s look at the former champs, BTS, whose ON raked in 1.54 million people watch it at the same time.

FASTER THAN BTS IN THE FIRST 8 HOURS TODAY

What’s more, BTS released Stay Gold at around the same time as How You… but is stuck at 13 million views at the time of writing this. BLACKPINK has crossed 42 million in the same timespan.

FASTEST GIRL GROUP TO 10 MN

They broke their own record for the fastest K-Pop girl group music video to reach the 10mn milestone (set with Kill This Love) in 3 hours 40 minutes flat.

FASTEST K-POP GROUP TO 20 MN

BLACKPINK reached the 20mn mark in 4 hours, 32 minutes, becoming the fastest Korean group to do so. The last record held was by BTS’s Boy With Luv, who got there in 5 hours 3 minutes.

FASTEST K-POP GROUP TO 30 MN

The 30 mn mark came for BLACKPINK in a record-breaking 6 hours and 48 minutes, Boy With Luv by BTS got there in 7 hours 13 minutes.

FASTEST K-POP GROUP TO 40 MN

BLACKPINK raced past the 40 mn mark in 8 hours 37 minutes. BTS’s Boy With Luv got there in 10 hours 8 minutes.

MOST SUBSCRIBED GROUP ON YOUTUBE

What’s more, BLACKPINK became the most-subscribed music group on YT with 38.1 million subscribers. BANGTAN TV (BTS’s official artist channel) has 31.8 million subs. One Direction trails the two groups at 31.6 mn subs.
