bandook Review: Bhula Dunga will stay stuck in memory after repeat listens and viewings
By Bryan Durham - March 25, 2020
Nothing beats stronger and harder than a broken heart. It’s a struggle to make sense of what went wrong, especially when everything was going so right.
Darshan Raval’s Bhula Dunga proves beyond doubt yet again why he is the Heartbreak King of independent music (soon of Bollywood, too?). This, in spite of him not featuring in the video himself.
Instead, it features #SidNaaz (Sidharth Shukla and Shehnaaz Gill, who featured on Bigg Boss 13) a pair practically everyone wants shipped. No matter what side of the fandom fence you are, it’s hard not to realise why once you watch this video directed by ace choreographer and video director Punit J Pathak.
The chemistry is palpable, feels authentic and it’s a warm blanket on a cold night. It helps that Darshan has a voice that brings that depth of feeling and a musical mind that touches you to the core. It helps that lyricists Gurpreet Saini and Gautam G Sharma have outdone themselves with remarkable restraint on this single, which makes you wish it never ended. You want to see what happens next.
When someone you love, leaves you, it shatters you. It isn’t on your terms and you seek closure. There’s confusion, there’s nostalgia, there’s anger, there’s pain. The end of a relationship isn’t really ever the end. And so, when the story of Bhula Dunga plays out, it’s relatable, it’s real, it’s yours.
A far cry from the inescapable uncertainty of the realness of Bigg Boss and yet, you want SidNaaz to end up together. Just like most fans do in real life.
One thing’s for sure, this is one song and one video that stays stuck in memory.
