7 Up Madras Gig’s 3rd track Raati is an instant charmer

By Bandook - June 29, 2018

The third song to emerge from Sony Music India and Knack Studios’ 7UP Madras Gig is ‘Raati’ and it features independent music by composer Santhosh Dhayanidhi.

Right at the outset, we can tell you that it is a charm to listen to. It brings a smile to your face, just like the smell of first rain does.

The song is a simple composition with a clean sound and there’s a lot happening instrumentally. It starts with an electronic groove with the Nadaswaram, which eases you into the unhurried yet composed cadence of the song. Breaking the convention is the percussion which uses a common bench for almost the entirety of the rhythm line.

‘Raati’ means ‘beloved’ and Bamba Bhagya, a new find in Tamil music industry by AR Rahman, packages the song into a poetic ode through his sweet and effortless vocals.

The music video intersperses between the performance and a story told in snapshots (no pun intended). A photographer has a beautiful client for whom he develops a crush. He clicks her through a series of photos, herself, with her friends, then her family, and in the end with her husband as newlyweds. Alas!

Although the story doesn’t end on a happy note, but the representation would take you back in time and fill you with a vintage appeal.

Surely check out this pleasant, yet heart touching song.
